First week of school 8/18/25 thru 8/22/25

Dear Parents and Families,

We had a wonderful week together in class! The students have been busy learning, sharing, and building our classroom community. Here are some highlights from last week’s activities:

  • Math: We explored place value, working on understanding how digits represent ones, tens, hundreds, and beyond. Students practiced identifying, writing, and comparing numbers using place value strategies.
  • ELA: We began reading and writing about Aristotle and government. The students learned some fascinating facts about how ideas from ancient times still shape the way communities are organized today.
  • Community Building: We also spent time doing plenty of “getting to know you” activities. These helped us build connections, practice teamwork, and learn more about each other’s interests, strengths, and goals for the year.

It has been exciting to see everyone settling into routines and approaching new challenges with curiosity and enthusiasm. I’m proud of the great start we’ve had and am looking forward to another week of growth and learning.

Thank you for your continued support!

Warmly,
Mr. Plotts

Second week of school 8/25/25 thru 8/29/25

Dear Families,

We had another busy and productive week of learning! Here’s a look at what your children have been working on:

  • Math: Students continued practicing place value and were introduced to graphing concepts.
  • ELA/Social Studies: We wrapped up our summaries of Aristotle and democracy, focusing on how his ideas have influenced government and civic life.
  • Science:
    • 5th graders began exploring the stars and constellations, sparking curiosity about the night sky.
    • 6th graders started their unit on microscopic elements, learning how to observe and think about the tiny building blocks of life.
  • Social Studies:
    • 5th graders are beginning their study of early Indian tribes, learning about their cultures and contributions.
    • 6th graders are investigating prehistoric man, discovering how early humans lived and adapted to their environments.

It’s been wonderful to see the students making connections across subjects and engaging so thoughtfully in our discussions. We look forward to building on this foundation in the weeks ahead.

Thank you for your continued support!

Warm regards,
Mr. Plotts

Second week of school 9/2/25 thru 9/5/25

Dear Families,

We had a wonderful and productive week of learning! Here are some highlights from our classroom:

Math:
Students practiced PEMDAS, worked with decimal place values, and reviewed graphing. I will continue designing lessons that strengthen skills for success at the middle school level.

English/Language Arts:
We focused on penmanship, grammar, and summarizing an article. Students read aloud and enjoyed a few funny stories that encouraged both imagination and a love of reading.

Science:
5th graders continue their exciting investigation of a peculiar artifact! They are analyzing fact-based data and using it to make predictions.

Music:
Students are learning to connect staff notation with the piano keyboard.

It’s been another engaging week full of growth and discovery. Here’s to another great week ahead!

Warmly,
Mr. Plotts

Second week of school 9/8/25 thru 9/12/25

Dear Families,

We had another exciting week of learning! Here’s a look at what we’ve been working on in class:

Math:
Students practiced PEMDAS, developed numerical sense with decimals out to the thousandths, and worked on graphing in all four quadrants of a graph.

English/Language Arts:
We continued practicing penmanship, grammar, and summarizing articles. Students also enjoyed Mad Libs, which gave us a fun way to reinforce parts of speech.

Science:

  • 5th grade is still investigating a peculiar artifact, analyzing fact-based data to make predictions.
  • 6th grade is exploring scale and microscopic biomes, sharpening their observation and inquiry skills.

Music:
Students are connecting staff notation to the piano keyboard, and we added a drum kit to our classroom—making music time even more engaging!

I look forward to seeing you at Back-to-School Night this Wednesday!

Warm regards,
Mr. Plotts
